USA Enters Semifinals PDF   E-mail
The U.S Soccer team moving on to the semifinals by the naroowest of margins. U.S defeated  Egypt , 3-0 and got help from Brazil, which beat World champion Italy by 3-0. The Americans' had no points before they take on Egypt and they had to beat African champions Egypt by at least 3 goals to make up a poor goal differential through 2 games.

In the second group USA, Italy and Egypt all finished with three points. Brazil won all three of its matches to top Group B with nine points. The Americans and Italians finished with goal differences of minus two, while Egypt had minus three. On the number scored goals USA won out Italy , four goals to three.

On the half time USA had 1-0 lead over Egypt with goal by Charlie Davies in the 21st minute.

Second half goals from Michael Bradley and Clint Dempsey put the United States in the semifinals against European champion Spain, the Group A winner. Group B winner Brazil will face Group A runner-up, host South Africa.
