JOHANNESBURG: Egypt shocked the world champions Italy in their last match with Egypt.  Egypt scored their greatest ever victory with a 1-0 win on Thursday over world champions. The Egyptian hero Mohamed Homos scored the goal in the 40th minute with a stunning header. Thanks to the Egyptian goalkeeper Essam al-Hadary for pulling off a set of fine saves. Egypt had narrowly lost 4-3 to Brazil in their opening game. Egypt and Italy are now level on three points in Group B.

Most of the Egyptians and coach Hassan Shehata shed tears of joy at the final whistle as they became the first African side in 15 attempts to beat the Italians.
“We are honoured because this was a victory against the world champions,” Egypt deputy coach Shawky Gharib said.

Disappointed Italy coach Marcello Lippi said his team started well but did not do what they planned.

“We had a good beginning in which I thought we did really well and created opportunities. I thought the game was balanced,” he said.

“But we were not very aggressive or entreprenurial. We didn’t take the initiative. I expected things to go differently but we didn’t take advantage.”

The African Nations Cup champions' made one change from their last match with Brazil  and it was an inspired move, with Homos replacing 35-year-old captain Ahmed Hassan, the country's most capped player.
